Reader's Digest would like to congratulate Spunky Suzi's blog and her progress towards living a healthier lifestyle. After reading this post, we'd like to answer question number 9. We're measuring our BMI this week. What about you?

9 comments:

  1. 1. When you workout do you find starting the workout a struggle but do you start to feel better as your workout progresses? I like to run...the first 3 km make me want to stop almost every time! Then I get into the groove of it. The best part is always when it's over!

    2. For those who used to have an addiction to sugar... how did you conquer the addiction? Sugar is a drug in my body...I have to wean myself off it over a few days, and then abstain as much as I can. It can set off crazy cravings, so if I try to stay away from the highly processed stuff, the cravings aren't as bad.

    3. What is your favourite colour? Aquamarine/turquoise

    4. Do you have a harder time after you have had good days? Usually once I have the sugar out of my body (see above), it feels a bit easier to keep going after a few good days...usually...

    5. What is your favourite healthy snack? Some sort of trail mix (as long as I don't eat too much).

    6. What is your favourite way to get your cardio in? Running.

    7. What are your favourite lower calorie sweet treats? Fruit and yogurt.

    8. How tall are you and would you consider your shape an apple, a pear, hourglass etc? I am 5'4" and probably an hourglass (or a pear) - wide at the bottom!

    9. What are you doing to help you stay healthy this week? I am sticking to my training program (running)...I have 9 weeks left to train for my first marathon! Eek!

Don't forget your answers, too, Suzi! :)

  2. 1. From Shane: When you workout do you find starting the workout a struggle but do you start to feel better as your workout progresses??

Getting started is always the hump for me. If I can just get started, the struggle fades and I get into it completely. The greatest feeling is when the workout is finished---and that feeling of, "wow, that was good!"

    2. From Terri: For those who used to have an addiction to sugar... how did you conquer the addiction. I have such a huge sweet tooth and i'm working at it but i find it is so difficult. sugar is in everything!

The compulsion to eat something sweet, especially right after a meal, was always so strong with me...a few bowls of sugary cereal or a big bowl of ice cream--but now, I lean on fruit--my favorite being strawberries and whipped topping. I also enjoy frozen ice cream novelties--they're easy and conveniently calorie controlled!!

    3. From Karen: What is your favourite colour??

    Easy--Blue!

    4. From Christie: For people who are focused on losing weight... I would like to know do you tend to have a harder time staying on plan after you have had good days??

It's easy to feel relaxed after considerable success...and slipping seems to be almost certain, IF some kind of boundary isn't established. Although I've often said that I don't relish the idea of counting calories forever--I'm realizing that a fairly well defined target is important. The old behaviors are gone for the most part--so it's not that difficult to wrangle--But I can see where a relaxed effort after success, can be a serious threat. As a food addict and compulsive eater--I think I'll always need to stay very aware of how I'm treating and using food. It's a friendship to me---and a very important one, worthy of healthy boundaries.

    5. From Geosomin: What is your favourite healthy snack??

Baby Carrots lightly salted--and lemon marinated cinnamon dashed apple slices with a little sweetener. Those apples---oh my, it's like eating apple pie out of a bag!!

    6. From Ellie: What is your favourite way to get your cardio in??

Spinning class!!! An hour on that cycle--with an instructor yelling out gears and intensity---it just totally rocks me in every way. My second choice is the eliptical.

    7. From Christel: What are your lower calorie sweet treats??

Vanilla soft-serve cones for 150. Some ice cream novelties for anywhere from 70 to 130 calories each. 70 calories for a dream bar is just an amazing little treat to me.

    8. From Jesuiseval: How tall are you and would you consider your shape an apple, a pear, hourglass etc??

I'm 6'3" and shaped like a---Hmmmm, like a guy, I guess--I never really thought about my shape.

    9. From me :) What is are you doing to help you stay healthy this week??

I'm exercising more and making a serious effort in increasing my consumption of lean meats, fruits, and veggies.

Except if you are at a park or something -
Then you can call it a "hike!"

  4. 1. From Shane: For me it's weights training involving my knee. It's weak and so I ahve tobe so careful with it. Now that I"ve slowly been building up muscle it is easier, but still a challenge.
    2. I've never been big on sweet stuff. For me it's greasy salty things. My only problem with sugar is I'll have too much natural sugar from too much fruit.
    3. Yellow
    4. I used to find it harder after a good day, as I'd get cocky and think I deserved a reward. Now I just start every day over like it's the first. No past problems. That way, each day I earn rewards for myself and I don't focus on yesterday so much.
    5. apples or laughing cow cheese on a rice cake
    6. Used to be running (how I miss it...silly knee...), but now I alternate between arc trainer and biking
    7. a square of dark chocolate
    8. 5'5". I'm definitely pear shaped. Even when I thinned down, have the pear thing going on...
    9. Drinking enough water. I don't drink enough...I'm learning :)

  5. Hey! Where are YOUR answers, chica?

  6. 1. Definitely! I love working out when I finally get going.

    2. I don't deprive myself of anything. I eat whatever I want, one day a week. The main thing is portion control.

    3. My favorite color is purple with bright orange a close second.

    4. For me, every day is a struggle to stay on track. It's so easy to "not" do something. I just have to do it even when I don't want to.

    5. I love fruit, any kind.

    6. My favorite way to get cardio is riding my bike. I could ride all day long.

    7. Yogurt or SF pudding with SF cool whip. I also love popcorn. I use a butter spray to help cut back on the calories.

    8. I'm 5' even. I'd say I was an apple shape.

    9. I'm redoing my workout schedule because work days and commitments changed last week. I need to figure out how to get some sort of exercise in each day.

  7. And here are my answers :)

    1. From Shane: When you workout do you find starting the workout a struggle but do you start to feel better as your workout progresses??
Somedays I definitely have to make myself start a workout but usually about 20 minutes in I'm loving it!

    2. From Terri: For those who used to have an addiction to sugar... how did you conquer the addiction. I have such a huge sweet tooth and i'm working at it but i find it is so difficult. sugar is in everything!
To tell the truth I have a huge addiction to sugar. Now I know some people can eat it in moderation but that just doesn't work for me. I really have to keep it out of my house.

    3. From Karen: What is your favourite colour??
    Right now?? Purple :)

    4. From Christie: For people who are focused on losing weight... I would like to know do you tend to have a harder time staying on plan after you have had good days??
For some reason I do have a harder time then! I really do think we sabotage ourselves quite often.

    5. From Geosomin: What is your favourite healthy snack??
I'm loving greek yogurt with walnuts and honey lately but I always love some natural almonds as well :)

    6. From Ellie: What is your favourite way to get your cardio in?? Definitely walking :)

    7. From Christel: What are your lower calorie sweet treats?? I have to admit I'm really not good at eating sweet things moderately but I do have granola bars! Especially when I'm taking food to work. Keeps me away from the fresh donuts and danish's at work.

    8. From Jesuiseval: How tall are you and would you consider your shape an apple, a pear, hourglass etc??
I'm 5'0" and I'd say i'm an hourglass. Doesn't matter my weight I can still see my waistline.

    9. From me :) What are you doing to help you stay healthy this week??
Well as you know I'm sick but I have planned very healthy eating for this week to get me through this bug.

Hope your having a great day!

  9. 1. From Shane: When you workout do you find starting the workout a struggle but do you start to feel better as your workout progresses??

I actually feel great at the start and after the workout is over. Toward the middle and definitely at the end, I tend to feel worse.

    2. From Terri: For those who used to have an addiction to sugar... how did you conquer the addiction. I have such a huge sweet tooth and i'm working at it but i find it is so difficult. sugar is in everything!

I find that dark chocolate hershey's kisses are good for that. I'm not kidding, though... if you just have one when you crave sugar it really does help.

    3. From Karen: What is your favourite colour??

    Dark Gray.

    4. From Christie: For people who are focused on losing weight... I would like to know do you tend to have a harder time staying on plan after you have had good days??

YES! I am pretty sure this is because I'm more likely to allow for worse eats when I have been doing good for a while. I tend to let this behavior happen and have learned to not feel guilty about it. It's not worth it to stress over a bad day.

    5. From Geosomin: What is your favourite healthy snack??

Is cheese healthy? LOL I like fruit and cheese combos like grapes and sharp cheddar. But really... just eating less of a good thing is my way of life.

    6. From Ellie: What is your favourite way to get your cardio in??

What is cardio again? I haven't done this in a while, but I love to run.

    7. From Christel: What are your lower calorie sweet treats??

I stick with the 100 calorie packs or go for baby carrots.

    8. From Jesuiseval: How tall are you and would you consider your shape an apple, a pear, hourglass etc??

    5'7" Hourglass.

    9. From me :) What are you doing to help you stay healthy this week??

Drinking more water than ever before, less cheese (lol yeah right...) and healthy lunches.
