Daily update!

I forgot to put this picture in yesterdays post! A woman sitting outside playing awesome music. Loved it.

For exercise today I went for a walk to the vets and the grocery store. I ended up walking for more than an hour :) I also did a 10 minute stretching routine :) Not the nicest weather out it was a mixture of rain and snow.

Breakfast: Egg substitute omelet, 3 slices low sodium pre-cooked bacon, beet greens, 1 tsp butter, 1 cup of low sugar orange juice. 2 Tbsp kefir and 2 Tbsp 5% cream for coffee.

Lunch: Veggies, fruit, yogurt with Love Crunch Dark Chocolate and Red berries granola, cheese and crackers.

Dinner: 3 oz tenderloin steak, salad, balsamic dressing, broccoli, 1 tsp butter and strawberries dipped in dark chocolate. Glass of Yellow Tail Shiraz wine to make an awesome meal even better :)

Water:9 cups
Exercise: 1 hour walk and 10 minutes stretching

Question Day!

Have fun with these and I'll definitely be checking in to read the answers!

1. Do you try to limit your sodium?? How many mg do you try to stay under?

2. Do you have a certain routine in the morning that you stick to?

3. What kitchen tool do you consider to be your can't live without??

4. What new food have you tried lately? Did you like it?

5. Do you weigh in daily, weekly or monthly? Or maybe not at all??

1. I'm trying to stay below 2,000mg of sodium

2. This week I'm trying to get into a better morning routine. Bathroom(of course), drink water, do some squats/pushups/crunches, coffee and breakfast and maybe some cleaning.

3. My toaster oven

4. Beet greens, I love them.

5. I waffle on this one. Right now I'm weighing in daily.

My plan for this week!

I have a bad habit of starting something then giving up quickly only to try something that I think will work better. I really have to stop doing that. Why?? Because I'm just going round in circles and not going anywhere fast!

I have gained weight that I need to get off. I don't feel healthy.

So I'm going to get back to what works best for me. I'm getting back to basics. I really do think that what works for one doesn't necessarily work for others. The best part is that the hubs is going to be joining me :)

This is what has worked for me in the past:
  • Drinking at least 9 cups of water
  • Walking/working out at least 5 days a week
  • Keeping my sodium below 2,000mg
  • Planning my meals in advance
  • Not being necessarily low carb but watching my carbs and keeping them under 150g/day
  • Blogging every day and reading and leaving comments on other blogs.
  • Journaling online
  • Getting up early
I work afternoon shift so it's been very easy to sleep in. When I sleep in it's not as easy to find time to work out, to keep up with cleaning the house, it's harder to get all my water in and there's less time to blog :( So today I got up early, it sucked but I lived!

I started today by drinking 3 cups of water and doing some squats/crunches and girly pushups.

Then I had a coffee and grabbed a bowl of fibre one cereal with skim milk, banana and walnuts. 2Tbsp kefir and 2 Tbsp 5% cream for coffee.

One thing I can't plan today is dinner. I have a meeting which includes dinner and I never know what it will be but I'll just choose the best I can. I am taking a container of fruit so that I won't be tempted with any dessert.

3 more cups of water :)

Since I got up earlier today I had time to go for a walk :) I ended up walking for  35 minutes. I'm also going to get some walking in on the way to my meeting. That is another one of my plans to get extra movement/exercise in whenever I can.

Lunch was simple: veggies, cheese, a couple of olives and an apple with some pb2 mixed with yogurt.

Something else I'm doing is making some containers of veggies and fruits in the fridge ready to grab for both myself and the hubs. Also buying cheese in individual portions. Quick and easy!!

3 more  cups of water. And I've got my 9 cups in.

Anyway enough rambling for today. Tune in tomorrow for more :)

Not the best way to start a Monday!

For some reason my laptop is having some problems this morning!! Hopefully I can figure out the problem. Pretty sure it had something to do with a java update :(

A very busy weekend

It`s crazy busy at work!! Last night I swear I never stopped except for breaks till I went home.  The rest of this weekend is going to be the same or even busier!!! I slept in today because I was so tired.

So I probably won`t be around much this weekend.

I hope things get back to normal next week.

Hope you have a great weekend. Keep it healthy :)

Question day!

Thank you for taking the time to have fun with these! I love reading the answers :)

1. What do you do to keep your motivation strong to stay healthy??

2. What works best for you? Eating many small meals, 3 meals no snacks, not eating after dinner etc??

3. What's on the bottom shelf of your fridge?

4. What do you put in your tea/coffee??

5. Are you working out today or have you already done so?

My Answers

1. Having a plan is what keeps me motivated without a plan I usually forget or get distracted.

2. I have tried having snacks, eating 5 or 6 times a day but what really works for me is three meals and no snacks or eating after dinner.

3. Skim milk, grapes, blueberries and hummus

4. I like to put a Tbsp of 5% cream and sweetener in my coffee, for regular tea I put skim milk and sweetener and for herbal teas just a sweetener. I really do have to stop using sweeteners one of these days.

5. I'm going to do a speed walk as long as the weather stays good, if not I'll do an hour DVD walking.

The holiday weekend is over!

Did you enjoy your holiday weekend?? Do anything special? I have to admit other than the walk I was pretty much on the couch.

Because I usually get Monday off anyway it just seemed like a regular day except there was very little traffic and no stores open :)

Today I did some weights as well as a DVD workout. Funny thing I did the weights first then the DVD and the DVD had some of the same moves so I definitely got some good exercise in today!

  • Squats with shoulder press
  • Crunches 3 x10
  • Bicep curls 3 x10
  • Leg lifts 3 x10
  • Chest press 3 x10
  • Front raise 3 x10
  • And a hip exercise that I don't know the name of :) hip extention?? 3 x10
  • Tricep extensionn 2x10

Breakfast was some apple rings dipped in multi grain pancake batter with some sugar free syrup on top, 2 Tbsp kefir and 2 Tbsp of 5% cream for 2 coffees.

Lunch was a salad with veggies, 4% allegro cheese, a few blueberries, some balsamic vinegrette and an Activia yogurt. I also had a cup of green tea.

For dinner I made a new to me recipe Baked Potato Soup! I also having a glass of wine after dinner while we watch the movie Tower Heist which came out on DVD today :)

It's Family Day!

This weekend was a bit crazy. It was busy, I never seemed to have enough sleep and I was generally grouchy. Oh well now my weekend begins :) For those that don't know I'm a supervisor at a coffee/donut shop Thursday to Sunday. For those that are in Canada you probably know it's at a Tim Hortons. Well this week officially starts Roll up the rim to win which means it will be nuts for the next couple of months.

Any way back to today. Today in Canada it's family day.

Family Day is the third Monday of February and observed as a public (or statutory) holiday in the three Canadian provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. (Manitoba celebrates Louis Riel Day and it's Islander Day in Prince Edward Island.)

Once I was up I checked the Weather Network on my computer.  It said it was -10C (14F) but it would be going up to 1C (33.8F) this afternoon!! Yep I decided to wait a while :)

While I was waiting for it to warm up I made breakfast. I may have burnt the bacon but it was still tasty!

After snuggling with Snuffy I decided to be brave and go outside for my walk. I never regret going on my walks but I do regret it and feel guilty when I don't. I have to admit I had a nice hot cup of gunpowder green tea to warm me up first! I ended up walking for an hour today.

Lunch ended up being some veggies, beet chips,(I forgot to buy beets) 2 Tbsp Sabra roasted garlic hummus, jalapeno cheese, an orange, activia yogurt and a Tbsp of ground flax seed.

Today I drank 3 cups of water before breakfast, lunch and dinner. Good way to get my water in.

Dinner was something new. Chicken and broccoli noodle casserole. I was going to have beet greens but since I forgot to buy them and all the stores are closed today I went with some kale I had in the fridge. I will definitely be making this again. Thanks Gina!!

I had a snack today of a cup of vitasoy  holly nog warmed up and a cheese stick!

Wishing you a happy family day :)

Breakfast: Lemon raspberry protein pancakes with sugar free syrup, 2T kefir and 2T 5% cream for my coffee.

Lunch: lean ham, allegro 4% cheese, veggies, 50g avocado, cherry tomatoes and an Activia yogurt.

I'm taking to work a protein drink, some trail mix, dried apple and peanut butter flour mixed with water!

Hope you have a great start to your weekend

Dull and miserable!

That's what the weather is like today! Foggy, misty and muddy.

I figured even with the bad weather I'd go out on a walk.

And then I sat down to think about it some more!

I made breakfast which was some fibre one cereal, banana, raspberries, flax seed and skim milk. 2 Tbsp of kefir and 2 Tbsp 5% cream for coffee.

Then I sat down and caught up on some blog reading :)

Veggies, avocado, cheese and honey ham

Ralph came up with the brilliant idea of going to the big mall near us to do some indoor walking together!! What a smart man, I loved walking through parts of the mall I hadn't seen before. We saw a beautiful mirror I'd love to put on the walk behind my couch and many more things that will have to wait for a while. We ended up walking for an hour.

When I got home I made a snack with some strawberries and trail mix. Kept me going until dinner was ready.

I made dinner with some chicken thighs, butter chicken cooking sauce, basmati rice and green beans with some earth's balance. I have to say this was really tasty. Must remember to make this again :)

Now I need to go oil my scalp (I've had psoriasis since I was 12) and watch a movie.

Hope you had a great day too.

And finally I went on a walk!

I'm so glad that today I was able to go on another walk today.

I find that I'm more likely to get exercise in when I make a plan to do so. Honestly, if I haven't planned for it I'm more likely to sit my butt on my computer chair and lose track of time on the internet.

I've decided that I need to ramp up my exercise. I'm going to start by doing 30 minutes 6 days a week.
What am I going to do?? I love my walking so I'm planning on getting lots of that in. I'd also like to start doing yoga and weights.

For now I'm just putting one foot in front of another.

My eats for today were pretty good:

Breakfast: scrambled egg substitute with a light laughing cow cheese, slice of whole wheat toast with some ginger marmalade. 2 Tbsp kefir and 2 Tbsp of 5% cream for coffee.

Lunch: raw veggies, greek yogurt, cocoa, flax seed and banana

Dinner: Blue menu vegetable lasagna, strawberries and a glass of wine

Snack: 1cup of grapes and a cheese stick

I drank 8 cups of water and exercised for 35 minutes today!

Question Day!

1. If you are married/with someone where did you meet them??

2. Toilet paper over or under?

3. Have you heard of chia seeds or flax seeds? How do you use them??

4. Do you have a favourite mug/cup what does is look like?

5. What is your favourite cheese??

Busy day!

I finally have a title for a post :)

Today started by getting up early to take Ralph for a stress test at the hospital! It went well. In fact his cardiologist was very impressed. She actually had him running uphill on the treadmill and was very impressed with his test.

Now we only have to go back for one more test in March.

After we got home I had to go to work for some work place safety and whmis training for a couple of hours.

As far as food goes today I grabbed the quickest foods I could find. Some cheese, toast and a bowl of cereal! Not great but it then again it wasn't quite a normal day :)

Hope your week is off to a good start!

I tried something new!

I decided to tackle making crepes this morning :) They came out pretty good. For the filling I caramalized some banana's with a little vanilla sugar. Put them in the middle of the crepes. Then sprinkled 1/2 Tbsp mini semi sweet chocolate chips on top. Rolled them up and drizzled some warm peanut butter and topped with a little sugar free syrup!!! Oh la la they were good.

Lunch was just some fruits, veggies and hummus.

For work I'm taking a protein drink and buying a cranberry/blueberry bran muffin.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Thursday, February 9, 2012

Yep this week is boring enough that I've run out of titles :)

Since I'm working an extra day on my feet I took today as a rest day, tomorrow I'll work out again. The knees and ankles so far are doing great so I don't want to upset the apple cart.

So instead of a walk I did some more de-cluttering in my kitchen!

Breakfast: scrambled egg substitute, bacon, 1 slice whole wheat toast, 1 Tbsp lemon curd, 1c oj, 2T kefir, 2T 5% cream for coffee

Lunch: leftover ham and cauliflower casserole au gratin, kale and onion and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, 1 tsp butter and a strange pear

Took to work: Protein drink, blueberry muffin (less than 100 calories)

Snack: K-pod of hot chocolate (70 calories), blueberry muffin
Now I'm off to get ready for work!

Today's nosh

I'm working tonight for a fellow worker who needed the night off. No problem, I did a Leslie Sansone DVD and some more cleaning before I needed to head out!

Breakfast: Raspberry lemon protein pancakes with sugar free syrup. Kefir and 5% cream for coffee. For some reason I couldn't find the picture :( Maybe I just imagined it! I swear it tasted and looked awesome

Lunch: Leftover kale and bean soup, 1/2 a jalepeno bagel and a pear

At work: Chicken strips with flaxseed, veggies and I'll buy a mocha latte no whip while I'm working

Want a tip for drinking more water?? Eat something really spicy!

How is your day going??
